Black & POC Rage, Rest & Recharge Events

Dope Black Queers (DBQ) is a community collective that sits at the intersections of Black, Queer and Trans identity. We exist as a means to create intentional space, and have been running events since 2021.
DBQ is committed to supporting the Black and POC LGBTQIA+ communities through the triggering and traumatic events that have unfolded around us over the past few days and weeks, but also years.
We understand and deeply value the importance of coming together to sit in rage, grieve, laugh, cry, have moments of joy and just be through these especially difficult periods of time.
We are planning on creating a space to do just this - the first one will be on Zoom on Thursday 8th August, and we hope to have an IRL event next week, followed by many more (dependent on the success of this fundraiser). The events will be by and for Black and POC LGBTQIA+ folk, and include breath-work, guided mediation, sound-baths, massages, rage and rest discussions forums, dine and discuss supper clubs, IRL & URL events, and much more.
The intersections of our racial identities and our queerness & transness during these political moments of unrest make us all the more vulnerable. As the far-right bigots are raging, these are the moments which homophobia and transphobia are also likely to join ranks with racism and Islamophobia, and much of our LGBTQIA+ community will be in more vulnerable and dangerous environments now more than ever.
This is why these spaces for Black and POC LGBTQIA+ folk are all the more paramount, so please be mindful that these events are curated for and by Black and POC LGBTQIA+ individuals. Black and POC allies are welcome, but please always enter the chat with love, kindness and respect.
If you’ve been looking for a way to support the Black and POC communities, consider helping us support each other.
Money raised will go towards properly paying for people's time and expertise in the following:
• Practitioners, experts and collective collaborators for each event
• Welfare team
• Access team
• Taxi funds to get people to the IRL events and home safely (if we’re able to make our target, and if not then the most vulnerable will be prioritised)
• Chat + Zoom moderator
• Online advertising
• DBQ hosting, curating and admin work
• Snacks and soft drinks
We have set our goal high as it costs to pay the Black and POC communities what we deserve but we would also like to do as many of these events as possible, and have them as ongoing support groups, because the trauma does not cease when the riots eventually cease.
