Black Joy Campaign (f. July 2020) is a collective for Black organizers and artists, and committed to bringing Seattle’s Black community healing, civic engagement, and radical joy to the best of our ability. We are planning a Black Joy Festival and Community Rally, where we will be hosting a collection of local organizers, speakers, and artists. Today we begin a 30-day fundraising campaign, at the end of which we hope to have reached our tier-one goal of $3000. In order to support events and rallies beyond the Black Joy Festival and Community Rally, we've set a tier-two goal of $6000. The tiers are explained as followed:
Tier-One: This goal will be put solely towards platform fees (ie donation processing fees), stipends to all of our performers, and rental fees for the venue.
Tier-Two: Black Joy Campaign is an ambitious collective of organizers, and we have many ideas as to how we can facilitate spaces for Black joy through the rest of this year and beyond. Any additional donations that push us over our tier-one goal will be used for future events!
Keep your eyes on our instagram page, @blackjoycampaign, or our website, blackjoycampaign.org, for more event details and fundraising milestones.
As stated on our webpage, “we seek to provide healing and joy for all black lives, and so we do not invite nor do we accept ableism, mysogyny, queer phobia, or white nationalism/supremacy into any space curated by or in collaboration with the black joy campaign platform.” Please head to blackjoycampaign.org/about to read the full letter, written by our founder @breannajanay_.
