I’m X Olamina from HoodSchoolNYC, and we’re gearing up for our Black August Community Cookout —a day of celebration, resistance, solidarity, and mutual aid in the heart of Harlem. This year, we’re not just filling plates... with community support, we’re filling backpacks too!

What: FREE BBQ feast + Book and School Supplies Giveaway + Poetry Workshops and festivities for 150+ neighbors!
We are working in coalition with area arts collectives, grassroots organizations and community members like you to make sure our community; youth and elders stay connected.
Your Support Makes Black August Magic Happen!
In total, we aim to raise $ 2,000.00 for food and grill supplies, and to supplement school supply donations.
HoodSchoolNYC is a grassroots cultural work collective based in Harlem. We host open mics, workshops, cultural education, and skill-sharing opportunities with an emphasis on liberation history and contemporary movements.
