Black Advancement: College Debt Relief Fund
Debt, more specifically Student Debt, is one of the biggest hindrances in the life of a black person. The student-debt crisis weighs heavily upon black borrowers. A 2018 study found that black students held as much as 85.8% more debt than white students.
2020 students were faced with a pandemic, social distancing, tremendous losses, trauma, whilst having to focus on striving for a better future; a future that seems so uncertain for a black person today. The 2020 Black graduates deserve the chance to start their careers, debt free. They deserve the chance to advance in a world of systematic oppression that delays black success by approximately 5-20 years, more than the average white person. We understand that this is a MAJOR initiative. And although a world in which all student debt is relieved is ideal, this is a start.
Black Advancement: A College Debt Relief Fund is an effort to assist black students with paying off 50-100% of their student loan debt. We would like to dedicate 75% of the fund to the black 2020 college graduates, after persevering through one of the most difficult years to be a student. The remaining 25% will go to past black graduates with outstanding debt. Candidates will be screened and selected by founder, Kreshonna Keane and a team of individuals seeking to make a difference in the world.
Today, on Juneteenth , a celebration of progress and acknowledgement that change is possible, this is the change we hope to make. A change towards a better future with equal opportunity.
