"In every community, there is work to be done.
In every nation, there are wounds to heal.
In every heart, there is the power to do it.”
Marianne Williamson

We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you."  -Jeff Warner

Davina D. Estrella Ramey is a medicine wombyn, doula, herbalist, knowledgeable resource and soon to be mother of seven. I know Mama Davina Estrella through her community healing work, grassroots organizing and service within marginalized communities. Her husband, Papa Aaron Ramey is a solid organizer, providing advocacy, resources, housing, mental and healing services to populations impacted by the prison industrial complex. Davina and Aaron are committed and dedicated parents. They make sure their children are well rounded, down to earth, educated and cultured spirit beings.

I am writing this request on behalf of this family, not because they asked me to but because I know they are righteous community members. Time and time again the Rameys let community members and even strangers into their home because they need a safe place to sleep and a hot meal to eat. I have experienced this couple step up and support a young couple navigate domestic violence. There are too many single instances of the small and big ways in which the Ramey family has extended resources, wisdom, or a hand of support to others.

We are calling in the energy of Collective Work and responsibility, Ujimaa. We are calling in the spirit of, “Many Hands Make Light Work”. We are calling for family, friends, community, kindred spirits and even strangers to give as they are able to this family that is a most valued gift to all their relations.

The family would like to have a home birth to avoid the dangers of birthing in the hospital amidst the global pandemic. The funds generated will go towards paying for the related cost of the birth in addition to perinatal midwifery and doula consultations, service and care.

The birth team that is supporting the Rameys deliver safely at home has over 50 years and 5,500 births of collective experience between the 3 women team !!!

All love offerings are received with Supreme gratitude, appreciation and light.

                                                                                                            ***BIRTH TEAM ***

Greetings, My name is Lisa Davis and I am a Certified Nurse Midwife who practices homebirth with the wisdom of traditional midwifery. I am the mother of two daughters, the grandmother of two grandsons, and an activist. I believe that birth is sacred and I believe in the body's ability to birth. I serve all people but specialize in African-centered care using the Midwifery Model of Care and the wisdom of Black Midwives. I have over 20 years of experience working with birthing people as a Labor and Delivery RN. I have seen the wisdom of traditional midwifery improve outcomes and experiences

"I think that as oppressed and marginalized people, the most revolutionary thing we can do is heal"

Sumayyah Franklin is a full spectrum doula, a traditional midwife (cpm candidate), an advocate, a facilitator and an artist. She is deeply humbled by the power of birth and aspires to primarily serve those least likely to have access to her services. She has been studying pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period since high school. She jokingly says that she first practiced as a doula when she was 3 years old, when her aunt gave birth to her first baby cousin. However, she has been a professional doula for well over a decade.

Her background as an artist, organizer, and an educator greatly informs her practice and extends out into her work as a facilitator.

In five years she hopes to be practicing as a midwife, a mother, and traveling around the world. Also, to have figured out her role in closing the gap in health disparities that plague the Black, POC, poor, queer, incarcerated, disabled and trans* communities. She is a visionary and determination fuels her as she treks on her path.

"If we obtain holistic lifestyles, we allow ourselves to thrive and get to a place where we don't have to fight anymore because we are whole." says Franklin.
