ITS MY BIRTHDAY but also the day my mum founded a school for underprivileged kids <3 The last few years I’ve raised money to help buy the kids presents. But last year I raised money to help the staff financially during covid! One year later…. The schools are still closed due to Covid and there is still very little being done by the government to support the staff. My mom has an ALL WOMEN staff and some of them are the only bread winners of their families, still not knowing where their next source of income will come from. Read below the little story of the day the school opened and why I connect to it so strongly ❤️ 28 years ago, my mom was all set to start something she really believed in - a school for underprivileged kids who couldn't afford an education. She put in months of hardwork and dealt with the stress to get where she wanted. With all the work that went into getting ready for the inauguration, she went into labour a couple weeks earlier than expected and missed the grand opening. My dad and sister went ahead and started the school in the morning AND welcomed a new member of their family that night (ME!) A little secret: My mom's school's name is Deepika and a lot of people think its named after me. But, I'm named after the school. Deepika means 'showing the way' and that was the name my mom picked for the school and since I was born on the same day, it seemed fitting to name me after it.
