Hi friends,
I am Jenny Zhou - a girl made in Shanghai and live in NYC.
I am celebrating my 30th birthday on 4/9/2022 and am hosting my 1st ever party. 30 is a big life milestone. Hence, I decided to give back to the Asian community and make my party a fundraising event for "Heart of Dinner", an NGO based in NYC.
In return, customized cocktails will be made and served by Jenny for you. Plus, free snacks and drinks will be served. NO birthday gifts are acceptable.
"Heart of Dinner" is selected to be the lucky recipient for the following reasons:
- My grandparents played a very important role in my childhood. My grandparents are in their early 90s now. They are in relatively good health, but definitely not as flexible as to how they used to be 20 years ago. I feel so lucky that my parents are both retired, and can deliver fresh veggies/fruits/deli every day to my grandparents' home. My dad drives my grandparents to do a pedicure every several weeks, visit doctors and go to pharmacies whenever they need to, bring them to their favorite classical Shanghainese restaurants, etc. Even though I am 6000 miles apart from them, I am happy that they are being taken with great care
- My grandparents are super fortunate. However, there are a lot of old grannies and grandpas who need to be taken good care of - in both Shanghai and NYC. Every time I see an old granny push a food cart on the street, this scene always reminds me of my grandma, and think about what we can do to help them live an easier life with higher quality
- "Heart of Dinner" mission resonates with me well. The organization serves elders throughout NYC, delivering weekly care packages filled to the brim with culturally thoughtful hot lunches, fresh groceries, pantry essentials, and bulk ingredients while supporting local small businesses during their COVID-related recovery process
- I have been trying hard to get enrolled in the grocery delivery volunteer work during the week - however, the delivery schedule always conflicts with my working schedule. Plus, I don't have a car so I am not qualified for volunteer work. Donating is a more straightforward way to support this organization.
