Just back from Uganda, I am dedicating my birthday month to raise funds for the S.O.U.L. Foundation in Uganda - a non-profit I love.
On my birthday, April 30th, I will do 1 push-up for every dollar donated in the month of April. Aiming to hit 2000+ push-ups in one day.
The donated funds support 2 primary programs:
(1) Education:
450 children who otherwise would not attend school are financially supported to remain in school -- from Kindergarten to the University level. The majority of supported students are girls, who are disproportionately denied access to education. (We still have 100 students yet to support. If you'd like to directly sponsor a student please let me know!)
(2) Maternal Health:
The death rate of pregnant mothers in Uganda is among the highest in the world. Women are often denied hospital care if they cannot provide their own supplies or if they are not accompanied by the father. S.O.U.L. provides expectant mothers ongoing training, nutrition, ultrasounds, and supplies to support a healthy pregnancy and delivery. We continue to increase the role of fathers in taking ownership of their role in maternal health.
I have been a volunteer, sponsor, and board member with the S.O.U.L. Foundation since 2013. I sponsor two students, one through University and the other in elementary school. My timeline with S.O.U.L spans 10 years and counting for LIFE. I have traveled to Uganda 4 times, where I have experienced the magical love and seen the immense transformation students and families have with the S.O.U.L. Foundation. The organization has a fully operational Ugandan staff, with immense and consistent guidance from local rural community members.
