About Me

Hi, my name is Lucas Quinteros. I'm 17 years old and currently working toward earning the highest rank in Scouting—Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout project, I’ve chosen to give back to my high school, Newark Academy, by completely renovating a neglected section of the courtyard. My goal is to transform old, deteriorating garden beds into a thriving bird sanctuary and a peaceful space for students and staff to enjoy. As part of this process, I need to raise all the necessary funds through donations, which is why I’m reaching out to my community, friends, and supporters.

The Problem

Right now, the garden beds in our courtyard are in disrepair. The wood is rotting, weeds have taken over, and what was once a lively green space has become forgotten and unused. This area, although central to the courtyard, now feels lifeless and uninviting—a missed opportunity in an otherwise beautiful school setting.

The Vision

My plan is more than just a garden renovation—it's a full transformation. I intend to replace the decaying beds with durable, low-maintenance, and environmentally friendly ones. Instead of planting high-maintenance annuals, I’ll plant native perennial wildflowers that reseed themselves, support pollinators, and provide food for local birds.

To truly make this a space where both nature and people can thrive, I’ll also install seating and a birdbath. The result will be a quiet, vibrant, and eco-friendly sanctuary where students can relax and local wildlife can flourish.
