Bilingual Mural Project in Memory of José Pérez

Donation protected
Because people have asked how they can honor the memory of José de La Luz Perez Moreno, a wonderful member of our Highland Park community, who passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, we invite you to join us in raising funds to create a bilingual (English/Spanish) community mural in Highland Park. His wife, and our dear friend, is Mary Curran, and his daughters are Lia and Lara Pérez-Curran and Bibiana Isabel Perez Nájera.

José, owner of Pérez Remodeling,  was a lover of the arts and people.  He played music, performed poetry, created beautiful crafts of wood and other materials, redesigned and remodeled spaces, cooked the most delicious food and shared all of this with his family and many friends in the Highland Park community.  We believe this mural will not only celebrate his life, but also serve as a reminder of Highland Park’s commitment to diversity and inclusion at a time when this message needs to be conveyed more than ever.

All funds will be used towards the cost of this community-based mural project. Anticipated costs include materials, artists, and educational/promotional materials.

We are in the process of working with the Highland Park Borough and/or Highland Park Public School District to select a location.  As this project develops, we will be sure to keep you updated and engaged in the process.

Thank you for honoring the memory and loving contributions of our dear friend and Highland Park resident, José Pérez.

With gratitude,
