The Great Lakes are the world's largest source of fresh surface water, making up 1/5 of the total fresh surface water on Earth! This freshwater system is at risk of toxic algal blooms, plastic pollution, sewage contamination, oil, pesticide, and industrial pollution, invasive species, and climate change. As one of the largest sources of fresh water, the health of these lakes is vital to the health of the millions of people that rely on them. The Alliance for the Great Lakes works to tackle many of the environmental threats that impact this system. 

Our bike ride will take us through Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario, as well as through the many small communities that rely on the health of these lakes to sustain their economies and lifestyles.
