~ A Fundraiser that Benefits Parkinson's Research ~

[Note: Due to the amazing generosity of everyone that has made a contribution we have quickly exceeded our original financial goal - and - have raised the goal by an additional $500! I am so grateful to you all.]

My stepfather Steve Burne passed away on January 15th 2023 following a long fight with Parkinson's disease. He was a young 77.

Husband to Mom for 48 years, stepdad, grampa, brother, uncle, church leader, an amazing musician with a sharp sense of humor, I (Doug, his stepson) will be participating in the 2023 RAGBRAI (an annual bike event) and will ride in his honor to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) for Parkinson's research.

RAGBRAI (Pronounced "Rag Bry" - Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) is in its 50th year and was started by the Iowa Register to promote tourism in that state.

Steve's life was cut short and in the final months, his quality of life diminished radically. Unable to sit up in bed by himself, or speak easily, his world was narrowed to a hospital bed, on hospice care, in the den of his home.

This is why I am raising money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. They are doing exceptional work in coordinating researchers across the globe in discoveries that can help those that have been diagnosed. In April 2023, a breakthrough was achieved by a scientific team led by MJFF .

Your donation will help propel their effort, so patients have more years with fewer symptoms.

I have set a modest financial goal since I've never done this before and don't know what to expect. Some won't be able or comfortable donating, that's perfectly fine and I understand.
