Help Abdoulie Get Medical Care

Donation protected
The Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN) is raising money for Abdoulie Nije, a 41-year-old father of three, came to the United States from The Gambia 17 years ago. After a long legal battle and almost eight months in detention, he received a final order of deportation several months ago. However, Abdoulie also suffers from a serious heart condition (mitral valve regurgitation) that requires a surgery he will be unable to receive in The Gambia. Because the Gambian government knows that it Abdoulie needs this surgery and that their medical system is not equipped to perform it, they have stalled on issuing the travel documents necessary for his deportation, leaving him in the limbo of detention while suffering from this condition.

Abdoulie's lawyer has filed a habeas corpus petition that, if approved, would allow Abdoulie to be released from detention in order to get mitral valve replacement surgery here in the US. He is hopeful that this will go through and allow him to be treated for his condition before his deportation, but he is also in need of the money to pay for the surgery and related medical care. Abdoulie has asked us to help fundraise the remaining $7000 (out of the $10,000 he's anticipating needing for the surgery and medication; about $3000 have already been raised here).

Please give what you can to help Abdoulie get the life-saving care he needs!
