(Kachina Bige is a Lutsel'ké Dené First Nation scholar, and Chair of the Indigenous Studies Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Her husband is award winning artist Kwantlen First Nation artist Brandon Gabriel.)
Kachina has started a fundraiser to assist with legal funds for an ongoing conflict with a developer/politican.
"...I am taking on Chair of the Indigenous Studies department at KPU. With the help of so much community we have a big role ahead of us to build this department..."
"That being said, I would like to put this stuff with (a) developer behind us. That is not happening. I am concerned about this. I don't think folks realize that we have volunteered so much of our time and money into this. We are tapped emotionally and any professional can see that this (settled) defamation stuff is based in the roots of colonization...Beyond this, if you can support our family by donating to legal funds to get this behind us that would be great. This kind of phantasmagoric spectacle is something only rich people have time for, we still rent our home and budget to keep our family moving.
Though we are incredibly grateful for what we've accomplished, we need to call in the light. Please support our family, and help us to keep food in our kids bellies, a roof over their head, and love in their hearts.
Masi cho, hiy hiy, (thank you) & neghanita (love you),
The Bige-Gabriel Clan."
