Who We Are & Why We’re Doing This
Hi, my name is Jesús Rivera, and together with my friends, Oscar, Elian, and Pablo — and hopefully more who will join us — we’re working on a mission to bring bicycles to children in rural Mexico.
This project started as a simple idea a few years ago. I began to notice that here in Canada, people often replace their bicycles — even ones in good condition — just to get newer models. In my moving business, clients would sometimes ask me to “get rid of” perfectly usable bikes.
At first, I thought about recycling them through the City of Calgary’s program, but then I realized something: thousands of bicycles are thrown away every year in Calgary alone. So I decided to start collecting and storing them, even if it wasn’t the most efficient process.
Now, after a few years, my friends and I have gathered over 120 bicycles — all ready to be repaired, repainted, and given a new life.
In many parts of Mexico, especially rural areas, owning a bicycle is not easy. They’re often too expensive, and for kids living far from schools, it’s not just a toy — it’s a way to get around and a small step toward opportunity.
I grew up in Torreón, Coahuila, and I remember how it felt not to have a bicycle of my own. That’s why this project is deeply personal to me. It’s not only about giving bikes away — it’s about bringing joy, mobility, and hope to children who truly deserve it.
We know one small group can’t change the world, but we believe every action matters. With your help, we can make a real difference and inspire others to do the same.
Please consider donating — every contribution helps us repair, transport, and deliver these bicycles to the kids who need them most.
Thank you so much for your support and kindness! ❤️
