Kiva Zip Fellowship: New York City
Donation protected
My name is Blake Harris, and I am a 2013 graduate of Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business. In June 2015, I will embark on an incredible journey to New York City as a Kiva Zip Fellow. I am respectfully asking for your support of this endeavor.
Kiva is a non-profit organization with the goal of connecting people through lending to alleviate poverty. Kiva works with microfinance institutions on five continents to provide 0% interest loans to people without access to traditional banking systems.
The goal of Kiva Zip is to expand financial inclusion, support local job creation, and facilitate direct connection between borrowers and lenders through crowdfunded microloans in the United States.
As a Kiva Zip Fellow, I will immerse myself within the New York City community and work with non-profits, government officials, community development corporations, financial institutions, chambers of commerce, and other community leaders to scale Kiva Zip. During an 8-month placement, I will be on the front lines of facilitating economic investment in the less flourishing boroughs of New York City.
The Kiva Zip program aims to empower small businesses and entrepreneurs to ethically stimulate social and economic progress. I am honored for the opportunity to directly impact organic and local growth in the United States’ economy.
The Kiva Fellows Program is an unpaid, volunteer position. No stipend or housing is provided, as Kiva expects its fellows to fundraise for the entire journey.
I have leveraged every personal financial resource available to finance this incredible opportunity. However, I am short of meeting my projected expenses by $8,000. The following is an analysis of my projected expenses for the 8 months that I will reside in New York City.
Anticipated Fellowship Cost
Monthly Expenditures
Rent and Utilities $800
Food $300
Misc. Living Expenses $200
Student Loan Payments (cannot defer) $ 600
TOTAL $ 1,900
Other Expenditures
Airfare (Roundtrip) $600
Total Anticipated Fellowship Cost
Total Expenses $15,800
Blake Harris Contribution $7,800
Additional Capital Required $8,000
I have learned that not only are we able to contribute to real change in the lives of others, but it is our duty as citizens of this society. This is what Kiva stands for. Kiva supports those in need by bringing the lives of aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses to the forefront. Kiva Fellows are the front line to achieve this mission.
I would greatly appreciate your support with contributing to social and economic change in the United States. I vow to use every dollar in a fiscally responsible manner. With your support, we can stimulate local economies to keep innovating, creating jobs, building communities and continue to fight for the "American Dream."
Thank you in advance for your consideration of supporting my Kiva fellowship.
Best Regards,
Blake Harris
