Supporting Samantha and Family After Unimaginable Loss
Donation protected
On Friday June 6, our community was shaken by a heartbreaking tragedy. David and Ethel Dodge —beloved parents, grandparents, and daily pillars of strength for their family—lost their lives in a devastating car accident at the intersection of Soundview and Grandview in Gig Harbor, WA.
They were driving north on Soundview when they were struck by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. All we know at this time is that the driver of that vehicle experienced a medical emergency and their passenger was unable to avoid the collision.
David and Ethel were deeply loved, especially by their grandchildren. They were the heartbeat of an intergenerational household, helping raise and care for their family every single day. Their sudden passing has left an enormous void—one that is profoundly felt by their daughter Samantha Hughes and her family, extended family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing them.
Samantha works at Gig Harbor KinderCare and is a beloved staff member who pours her heart into supporting and nurturing young children and babies in our community. And her family needs our help now more than ever.
We are asking for financial support to help her navigate this unimaginable loss. Funds will go toward immediate childcare needs, lost wages from missed work, groceries, unexpected medical expenses, and funeral and burial costs.
If you’re unable to support financially, we have started a meal train for the family that you can contribute to by clicking here. ( https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/zz6026)
It is never easy to ask for help—but Samantha has given so much to others. My children love Samantha dearly, and our hearts break for the pain her family is enduring. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps carry a bit of this heavy burden. All of the proceeds will go directly to Samantha. Thank you for standing with their family during this time of sorrow.
**This Go Fund Me has been set up by Kari Moore, a local parent whose children attend the daycare where Samantha Hughes works. She’s been in contact with and given permission by Samantha to create this page.
