Each individual donation means the world to me so I can not explain how happy I am to have raised so much. This obviously all goes to the future Lilydale High Reptile Room which I will spend most of my lunchtimes in looking after the reptiles. Also thanks to the keepers who have also supported me in this effort and thanks to Leigh, my running partner and the man behind the page. Mum and Dad you're also incredible because how many people let their child run nearly every second night for weeks and weeks. Thanks so much for everything Mum, Dad, Leigh and everyone, you mean the world! :)

Who I am and my goal…

My name is Brydon Griffiths, I am a year 7 student at Lilydale High School. I am a Zoo Keeper in the Reptile Room and I was devastated at the loss of this room due to a fire that ripped through the room on Wednesday 2nd July. As a result I am determined to raise funds to get the Reptile Room back to its former glory as quickly as possible.

I am asking you to support me as I challenge myself to run 200 kilometres between Monday 14th July and Sunday 9th November. Within this 200 kilometres I will be running the 10km event at the Melbourne Marathon and I will be concluding the 200 kilometre challenge by running up Arthur’s Seat. A 7 kilometre run to the summit, which is 314 metres above sea level. I will be updating my progress with this challenge over the next 17 weeks.

I greatly appreciate your support. Any donation however big or small will help me stay focused and achieve my ultimate goal of raising as much money as possible for the Lilydale High Reptile Room.

What Happened….

On Wednesday 2nd July a fire ripped through Lilydale High’s Reptile Room, causing many reptiles to be killed or injured and causing major damage to the room’s facilities. The Reptile Room needs to be rebuilt along with replacing resources and animals.

What it is…..

The Reptile Room means a great deal to the students involved. The room is run by staff and students (keepers) who feed, clean and handle the animals. To become a keeper you need to complete jobs like cleaning the snake enclosures or handling blue tongue lizards. Once you complete them you take a test consisting of information that you learnt. Then you become a keeper. Students from all year levels can be involved in the Reptile Room. Older keepers look after the bigger animals like the Lace Monitors and the larger snakes. Being a keeper means you learn a lot of information about the Reptiles. Students studying animal studies benefit a lot out of being a keeper. They learn how to handle Reptiles and all their special needs. Marcus Whitby a mathematics teacher at Lilydale High is the founder of the Reptile Room. It opened in 2002 and has been growing ever since.

What it means to me….

The Reptile Room means so much to me because I have always had an interest in Reptiles and Insects. When I became a keeper I was so excited to learn as much as I could and to look after the animals. This program is an awesome opportunity for me to one day pursue my dream of becoming a vet. Knowing how to handle the reptilians means I will know how to when I’m older. I have already learnt so much from the experience and I can handle my Sand Monitor, Garra and even snakes. When I heard about the fire I was devastated. A couple of animals had died and I really wanted Garra to be okay. Fortunately she and a lot of the animals had been saved. Now they are being kept in a spare room at the school so the keepers can continue to look after them. We still need a new Reptile Room and we want to get it bigger and better than ever! Please donate to get the new Reptile Room up and running again as soon as possible! I would really appreciate it and it will keep me motivated throughout the next 17 weeks. Thanks again for all the support.

Thank you to Leigh Dunn for assisting me in setting this page up and raise funds to support this cause.
