Jessica Ray is my sister. Last week she, along with our family, were devastated when a judge decided that she would not be the primary guardian to her two kids.
To rewind a bit...My sister and her ex husband have had a verbal agreement to share equal custody of Hattie (5) and Holton (9) for years. In January my sister was served with custody papers. She hired the only attorney she knew. The initial hearing was rescheduled 4 times and finally happened last week. During that time period, my sister did everything required of her and had all of her documentation ready. There wasn't one reason that the judge should not grant her primary guardianship. The honest truth is, her attorney did not fight for her. Some evidence was brought forward that she was speeding with the kids in the car. That evidence came from an unreliable source...the "life 360" app on my nephews phone. My sister has since proved that the app is not accurate. The fact that a Texas judge would dismiss all of her proof and documentation and base his decision on an unreliable source is beyond me. The bigger let down is that her attorney said nothing in her defense. She spent all of her savings to pay for this attorney.
The plan...My sister and her husband, Bryan, have 14 more days to submit an appeal, but they need a new lawyer. They have talked with a new lawyer and he is ready to fight for them. However, for them to move forward with the appeal, they have to pay the attorney $7,500. (half of that is due up front for him to start the process). They have no savings left, and they quickly need help to make this plan happen. I added $500 to the fundraising total to help with the gofundme commission.
They are at a loss. They are heartbroken and need financial help. My sister is a great mom. I am trying to do everything in my power to help them. Please consider donating to these lawyer fees. I know and believe that our Great Lord is more than capable of handling this situation and providing this money. Whether or not you are able to donate, please pray for their family. I'm excited to see how the Lord provides. He uses bad situations to show His Glory, and I am believing that He will bring light out of the darkness.
