Our society places borders around who does and doesn't get protection during a crisis like COVID-19. With this mutual aid fund, we aim to provide material support to those who will NOT be getting stimulus checks, particularly immigrants, inmates, and sex workers. If you don't need some or all of your stimulus check, please consider donating it! [Update] The first $3,000 raised will be split between the following organizations (though we won't be mad at all if you just donate to them directly), and we will post proof of donations to them after they're made:
- The CASA of Maryland solidarity fund (distributing directly to CASA members who are immigrants not eligible for stimulus, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/casasolidarityfundmatch),
- The Baltimore Sex Worker’s Outreach Project mutual aid fund (supporting SWOP Baltimore and the Baltimore Safe Haven, https://baltimore.swopusa.org/2020/03/31/covid-19-relief-and-fundraiser/), and
- The BALT Bail Fund (helping people get out of jail, https://www.baltimoreactionlegal.org/new-blog/2020/3/18/covid-19-bail-fund-and-call-to-action-to-states-attorney-and-bpd).
Any funds raised after that will either support direct cash payments to individuals in crisis that were strangers to us before COVID-19 and who we've met through mutual aid efforts (see Mr. G's story, Update #1) or also go to support the above-listed org's.
