BEYOND THE SEA - In bicicletta per i rifugiati

Ciao, mi chiamo Mattia, ho 45 anni e sono un fotografo..
Da sempre nei miei viaggi sono stato attirato dai volti e dalle storie delle persone che incontro e ho sempre cercato di essere solidale con loro.
Quest'anno ho deciso di aiutare in maniera concreta, pensando e creando un viaggio per portare luce, sia con una raccolta fondi, sia raccontando e fotografando le realtà che incontrerò. In concreto,il 1 Luglio 2023 monterò in sella alla mia bicicletta e percorrerò pedalando tutto il perimetro del Mare Mediterraneo (tutto quello che mi è possibile considerando che alcuni paesi sono completamente o parzialmente percorribili).
Con il mio percorso attraverserò Croazia, Montenegro, Albania, Grecia, Turchia, Palestina, Egitto, Algeria, Tunisia, Marocco, Spagna, Francia, in 5 mesi di viaggio circa 12000km. Il mio passare in bici vuole essere un filo che unisce tutti questi paesi che sono coinvolti nelle migrazioni, sia come paesi da cui si fugge sia come paesi in cui si accoglie.
E qui il nome del Progetto “Beyond the Sea”, oltre il mare, documentare e andare oltre il mare, le barriere (culturali e fisiche), andare oltre i pregiudizi, andare oltre all’apparenza, per entrare in profondità e capire cosa muove queste popolazioni a lasciare tutto e cercare speranza altrove.
Oltre a dare visibilità a queste storie, voglio sostenere le associazioni che si impegnano per aiutare i rifugiati e i profughi, in prossimità dei campi e nelle zone di confine.
Questa raccolta fondi è proprio per loro, per finanziare i loro progetti, per dare gli strumenti giusti per poter curare, assistere, donare una vita dignitosa a coloro a cui è stato tolto tutto. Il ricavato verrà diviso fra tutte le associazioni che incontrerò nel mio percorso, concentrate soprattutto in Grecia (Corinto, Atene, Salonicco).
Guardando proprio il Mediterraneo, che abbraccia tutti noi, che bagna tante terre diverse, che unisce tutti noi con lo stesso orizzonte, guardando questo mare potete, possiamo, essere tutti noi goccioline di un Mare che accoglie.

Hello, my name is Mattia. I'm 45 years old and I'm a photographer. Throughout my travels, I have always been drawn to the faces and stories of the people I meet, and I have always tried to be supportive of them. This year, I have decided to provide concrete help by thinking and creating a journey to bring light, both through fundraising and by telling and photographing the realities I will encounter. Specifically, on July 1, 2023, I will hop on my bicycle and pedal around the entire perimeter of the Mediterranean Sea (as much as possible considering that some countries are completely or partially inaccessible). Along my route, I will cross Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Spain, and France, covering approximately 12,000 kilometers over the course of five months. My bike journey aims to be a thread that connects all these countries involved in migration, both as countries people flee from and as countries that welcome them. This is where the name of the project, "Beyond the Sea," comes into play: documenting and going beyond the sea, the barriers (both cultural and physical), going beyond prejudices, going beyond appearances, in order to delve deeper and understand what drives these populations to leave everything behind and seek hope elsewhere. In addition to bringing visibility to these stories, I want to support associations that are committed to helping refugees and displaced people near camps and border areas. This fundraising is specifically for them, to finance their projects and provide the necessary resources to care for, assist, and offer a dignified life to those who have lost everything. The proceeds will be divided among all the associations I encounter during my journey, with a focus on Greece (Corinth, Athens, Thessaloniki). As we look at the Mediterranean, which embraces all of us, bathes many different lands, and unites us all with the same horizon, we can all be droplets in a sea that welcomes.
