Bev Eert Needs Your Help Now!

On July 18, 2021, the Ombuds and Appeal Committee (OAC), published a 22-page Report that was not only wildly defamatory of some Green Party of Canada volunteers but also beyond the mandate of that committee. The Report and the act of releasing it to the public were essentially a politically-motivated smear campaign.

Beverly Eert, a long time Green Party member and volunteer, was the Manitoba representative on Federal Council and the Green Party Fund from 2017 to 2021, volunteer positions involving many hours of work. Bev's reputation has been impugned by the OAC Report and subsequent media stories around it, but she is most deeply concerned about the long term consequences for the safety of volunteers working for the GPC in any capacity. No one who might wish to work on an EDA, a committee, Federal Council or the Fund should ever be held back by the fear of the possibility of life-altering defamation or any other threat.

With all this in mind, on November 16, 2021, Bev filed a defamation lawsuit against the 3 members of the party's Ombuds & Appeals Committee, Ben Petkau, Sara Golling, and Kathleen DeWitt, who wrote, signed and disseminated that report in July 2021.

And today, Bev needs your support. Any such lawsuit is expensive. But Bev believes it is important to ensure the integrity of the Green Party of Canada and the safety of all members who may choose to volunteer for the Party, today and in the future.

Please help defray Beverley Eert’s legal costs by supporting this GoFundMe.
