We are raising funds to bring inspirational art, storytelling, and music to Walton-on-the-Naze, once more, showcasing our impressive local talent.
After the roaring success of the first Walton Arts Festival in 2024, ‘Between the Tides’ will return this September for another jam-packed weekend, opening on Friday 18th September and running through to Sunday 20th.
Planned events and activities will again be led by the tides of the Autumn Equinox. Against a backdrop of beach activities, a celebration of coastal community and creativity across Walton-on-the-Naze will ensue, involving local businesses, venues, Churches, community groups and organisations, artists, performers, schools from Walton, and the surrounding areas, for a spirited last of the summer hurrah!
Inspired by Walton’s heritage of September folk festivals, upholding its infamous reputation for being ‘Britain’s friendliest seaside resort’, the festival hopes to showcase and offer a vibrant mix of opportunities and activities for residents and visitors of all ages, to connect, create, and enjoy our wonderful coastal town in all its equinox glory.
We are excited to announce that we have received funding for Between the Tides, Walton Arts festival from Arts Council England. We wholeheartedly thank everyone who donated as this has raised our match funding, allowing us to secure this bid.
We have covered important costs such as insurance, first responders, stage and sound etc, and this has allowed us to book some very special guests such as:
- Welcoming arrivals from a specially arranged ‘Old School Disco Train’, from Colchester North to Walton-on-the-Naze, organised by the Essex and South Suffolk Rail Partnerships
- Drumming, Rhythm and roots CIC drumming group: A West African Drumming experience with interactive workshops all around the town.
- East Anglian Folklore Centre are bringing a ‘play in place’ on Saturday: a mock up of a medieval square with storytelling, song and kids workshops as well as a town criers competition where the winner will announce events during the weekend.
- Library: A day of events include historical talks, an immersive Katherine of Aragon experience, children’s author talks and song.
- Music including a young persons stage on the dodgems on Walton Pier
- Legendary storytellers including Gerry Donlon and John Row
- Teddy Bear Parachute Jump from the Naze Tower. Come and decorate your own parachute and launch teddy from the tower.
- Children’s shoebox carnival
- Local stars Evy Freason and Sam Eagle in All Saints Church
- Marine themed fancy dress dog show
And much much more……
Since putting in our bid, there have been many more opportunities that have been offered to us which we would like to support to make Walton Arts Festival great and many things which were not covered by the bid. So we are still raising funds to support other musicians, art workshops, raise volunteer supplies, prizes for competitions, and more opportunities to decorate the town.
