Better Futures Beyond Borders - Vietnam

I went to Vietnam for a holiday back in 2023, wanting to see more of the beautiful country and the people that lived there... What I experienced during my Ha Giang motorbike tour opened my eyes to a world I had never seen before and left me with a feeling I was not expecting.

Children selling flowers by the roadside in Ha Giang was not an uncommon thing to see. They wear beautiful bright outfits, selling bouquets of flowers in a picturesque setting which sounds like something of a sight and one for the memories... The thing with this though, is that while they're out here selling flowers to make some money to feed their families, they're not at school getting an education for a better future... and some days, they may be lucky to sell anything at all, and may not have anything to eat.

Children risking their lives, climbing up sides of mountains and dangerous cliff-sides to plant some corn to have something to eat, was also not an uncommon sight.

There were some lucky enough to have homes, but also many families living in shelters made from plastic sheeting and tarps.

The struggles and difficulties of living in such a remote area was apparent, and something that was deeply saddening to witness.

I left Vietnam with a newfound view and a mission to come back and hopefully make a difference, so here I am raising funds to create nutritious care packages to be distributed amongst those living in the most remote areas in the Ha Giang mountain region.

What started as just planning to bring lollies back for the children has turned into something more. A lot of thought has gone into this, from looking at lollies to medical supplies and basic hygiene in individually wrapped packages, but the harsh reality that exists is that whilst these items would be useful, it's unlikely that the children receiving these kinds of items will know what to do with them.

After alot of research and consultation with Blue Dragon and members of the community, I believe the biggest impact I can make is to put together and distribute nutritious food packages to give the children in rural farmlands close by the roadsides. I'm going with some friends to help with distributing these packages on motorbikes when we visit Ha Giang in November 2024.

All donations will go a long way to helping these people and any funds raised over the goal amount will assist in expanding the food packages to include other essential items.
