Beth's Legacy: Support for Mike

Hello,

I am Cathie Cole Hawsey, a life long friend of Beth Carter Fortner. I am creating this Go Fund Me in honor of our dear friend, Beth Carter Fortner. As you all know Beth fought hard with dignity and faith through her Cancer battle for many years. Never once complained except for the calls made to doctors and the medical field with the endless dead ends she faced. She was the happiest and most positive person I know. If you look back at her Facebook posts, she was always posting love, positivity and faith throughout her life. (I went back many years last night just reading her posts and looking at her pictures). Beth and the love of her life, Mike, were married more than 45 years and always loved each other with respect, faith and laughter. Mike cared for her, slept next to her until the end of her life.

Days before Beth passed, I spoke to her with Mike holding the phone to her ear and I made her a promise, a promise I intend to keep with the help of all of the friends and co-workers of Beth. A promise that I would make sure that Mike was okay. Ya see, I ask the hard questions, some that no one will ask, and I sat down with Mike after her passing and discussed the costs of funeral expenses, household expenses and life afterwards. In doing so, after much persuasion, I was able to understand what I already knew even though they both said, “We are good, we are fine”. Mike is facing the loss of the love of his life along with her income that helped them on their journey. Luckily, there is some life insurance that will help his future; however, in the present, there are home finances and funeral costs that must be met and caught up. With Mike’s approval, I am setting up Go Fund Me to allow Mike to breathe financially for the next couple of months while paperwork and documentation are completed and sent in. This will allow his home life to settle to his new normal and for him to plan for his future.

Both David and Elijah, (their sons) myself and many others will assist Mike, as he is very lost right now. So, I ask that each and everyone of those who loved and knew Beth, help me fulfill my last promise to her by donating whatever you can. For those not familiar with Go Fund Me, all funds, without any fees passed on to the recipient will go directly to them.
