The Fairport Community lost Beth Rothberg on Sunday, December 18th due to medical complications. Coach Beth was a big part of the Rochester skating community as a coach, instructor and hockey mom. She has been part of Rochester Ice Center (then Thomas Creek Ice Arena) for more than 20 years as a key member of the Learn to Skate program as well as building the Thomas Creek Figure Skating Club in the early years. Miss Beth had a special way with the youngest and most inexperienced skaters. This carried them through the years whether they went on to figure skate, play hockey or recreational skate. Her smile and love for skating and those she was teaching were apparent at all times. She passed her love of skating onto her own children and is now part of the Rochester Ice Center family in teaching at our Learn to Skate. As her son grew to play hockey Beth loved taking on the role of hockey mom always there to cheer on Ryan and his Jr Amerks team. Natalie followed a path of her own in the theatre but of course, her mother was in the auditorium to enjoy the show.
Ryan and Natalie followed other interests and their mom was there to support them in it all. She became a Girl Scout Leader for Natalie's troop as well as took on roles in the Boy Scouts with Ryan as he pursued his Eagle Scout rank.
Following her love of children, Beth was also a teacher in the Phelps School District.
Ryan and Natalie are suffering an immeasurable loss and we are asking for help to relieve the financial burden that is to come. Anything you can provide is much appreciated and will go directly to Beth's teenage children.
