Help improve the learning environment of Cambodian youth

Hello everyone,
We are Nevada, Nienke, Hanne and Anne, and we are currently working as volunteers in Cambodia on the Countryside Education Project (CSEP) in the province Prev Veng.

Prev Veng is a rural area 2,5 hours from the capital Phnom Penh. The CSEP is a community centre that helps the underprivileged through free accessible education. Currently the CSEP have two teachers who teach English, Khmer (Cambodian language) and computer classes.

A new school building was recently built to provide education to the growing number of students at CSEP. These classrooms offer more space but still need to be furnished and supplied with teaching materials. At the moment only 1 classroom is fully equipped, however there are still 2 empty classrooms and a lack of furniture in the library, daycare room, the office and accommodation of the two teachers and future volunteers.

The new classrooms make it possible for CSEP to use their previous classroom to provide daycare for the younger kids from 3-5 years in the area. At the moment many kids don’t go to school since they have to take care of their younger siblings. This daycare makes it possible for the older children in the community to follow classes while their younger siblings are being taken care of. Our construction and pedagogy student will design this area to create a safe and healthy environment for these toddlers.

Another big problem in this area is that especially the toddlers don’t get enough healthy nutrition for their development. Our Food Innovation students will start designing a vegetable garden, so that in the future CSEP can provide their students with healthy nutrition.

Our goal is to support CSEP and therefore help the community in order for these underprivileged kids to have a better future through education. From our various educations: pedagogy, construction and food innovation, we will contribute to this community centre in multiple ways.

We are raising money through the Dutch foundation Dom-Ray, which previously helped with the construction of the school and is still committed to the future of the Cambodian youth. Your donations help to make it possible to fill these empty spaces for these children so that we can create a safe, homely and stimulating learning environment for these children.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference!
