Contribute to Best Bakery - a charity project in Uganda!

Meet the crew of Best Bakery! These former school drop-outs are now professional bakers. Due to this project they've got a second chance. They will greet you with a smile, with proudness, and with the determination to make this big.

I started this project myself, after being a home-baker for years. I'm convinced that by teaching people to make things themselves, we can help them escape poverty. That's why I set up a bakery and a baking school in a rural village in Uganda. The goal is to educate, to make tastier and fresher bread, and to keep the profits within the village.

The baking course takes about 2 months and covers baking buns, loafs, cookies, mandazi and cakes. It also teaches the students entrepreneurship and finance. Afterwards they can work in the local bakery, or they can start for themselves with the provided start-up kits.

Take for instance Leslie, the woman at the far right of the picture. Before, she was homebound taking care of the house and family. Her husband is away a lot and she struggles to pay the school fees for her children. She did not think there would be any change for the future. Now, she is working in our bakery twice a week with a lot of joy, earning enough money to send one of her kids to school.

For the next year, we want to expand the existing bakery and open 2 new locations for schooling and baking.

To expand the existing bakery, we will need a bigger oven (€700) and dough mixer (€700), a motor bike for bread transport to the nearest towns (€800), a reinforced shelter against rain (€200) and at least 2 working benches (€100). We also want to provide start-up kits for the students that like to start for themselves (€80x5).

Opening up 2 brand new locations with ovens, equipment, rent, teachers, logistics will probably cost about €5.000 each.

Therefore please make sure to support this project! So many young Ugandans are full of hope and spirit, but struggle to find a purpose and/or job. Especially in the countryside. With these bakeries we can support these people and make sure they will always give their biggest smile!
