Firstly let us sincerely thank you for taking the time to view our page.
Our beloved Friend, Mother, Sister and Aunt Bernie Hughes has been recently diagnosed with Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP) which is a rare form of Motor Neuron Disease. This is everyone's worst nightmare and Bernie is battling hard every day to stay positive. Motor neuron Disease is sadly a terminal illness which means there is no cure and no effective treatment. Due to the unpredictable nature of the disease no medical personnel are able to give timescales, however Bernie has suffered a long time without diagnosis and is at an advanced stage of this illness.
Bernie has been unfortunate to be fighting this disease in a worldwide pandemic, meaning she is unable to see and spend time with her many friends and family. With the current covid restrictions Bernie is unable to access all necessary and available resources. Those available to her may take a significant amount of time to appear, time which unfortunately she may not have.
This disease is a horrible and unforgiving one, patients gradually lose their bodily functions, with the ability to walk, talk, eat and essentially be themselves taken from them.
Everyone that knows and loves Bernie will appreciate how strong willed she is and how she will fight with every ounce of her being to stay around as long as possible. We are fighting with her and want to ensure her remaining time is comfortable and dignified. In order to do this we are trying to help her with home modifications and disabled friendly tools so that she can be as independent as possible.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will go towards providing Bernie with the tools to ensure her remaining time with us is fun filled and dignified.
If you are reading this you know how special Bernie is, a kind, generous, loving and loyal person who deserves to spend her remaining time in comfort. This is our motivation, to help a woman who selflessly helps others.
We appreciate you taking the time to read this. We ask you to count Bernie in your prayers, thank you so much.
