I am Stephanie Alvarez the sister of Bernadette Amarillas. Bernie was diagnosed with cancer in June 2025. She has been undergoing chemotherapy since September. In August she underwent a major surgery where she lost a kidney and had a large amount of her intestines taken out. This surgery was last minute due to the doctors realizing the severity of her condition and informing us that instead of chemo and radiation first, her tumor must be removed. They ended taking out a 7.9 lb. tumor.

Due to this she has not able to go back to work until November. She tried going back these last few weeks however she has come down with an intestine infection. The doctors are now on top of that. Due to her not being able to go back to work and receive a steady paycheck, it is becoming difficult to keep up with the continuous bills of rent, car payment and food. We are trying to ease the burden and stress for the next few months while she works with her employer to come up with a solution.
