Help My Father — Bermuda’s First Olympic Medalist — Find a Home

My name is Jamaka Kamal, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart about my father, Clarence Eugene Hill, Bermuda’s first Olympic medalist.

In 1976, my father made history. He won Bermuda’s first Olympic medal, a bronze in boxing, and in doing so, he put our small island on the world stage. Bermuda became the smallest country in the world to ever win an Olympic medal. My father’s victory inspired generations of Bermudians and showed that greatness can come from the smallest of nations.

But today, my father — a man who once made our country proud — is homeless.

After spending many months in the hospital (about six months), he was released only to discover that the government apartment he had been given was no longer his. While he was in the hospital recovering, his belongings were removed and someone else was moved into his apartment.

Now, he has nowhere to go.
He has been seen around the bus terminal with no shirt, no shoes, and no home to return to.

As his son, this breaks my heart to witness — especially from afar. I currently live in the U.K., and it pains me deeply knowing that my father, a national hero, is living like this after all he has done for Bermuda.

My father should not have to suffer in silence or be forgotten by the very island he brought honor to. After all he gave to represent Bermuda on the world stage, he deserves dignity, stability, and a safe place to call home.

I’ve started this GoFundMe to raise money to bring my father to the U.K. to be close to me. I need to get him a plane ticket and secure him a stable apartment of his own. Every contribution will go directly toward his housing, care, and essential needs as we work to get him back on his feet.

This is not just about helping a man in need — it’s about honoring a legacy.
Clarence Hill’s story is part of Bermuda’s history. No national hero should ever be left without shelter, care, or support.

Please, if you can, help me bring my father back to a place of peace and dignity.
Every donation, share, and prayer means the world to us.

From my heart to yours,
Jamaka Kamal
