Help Us Support Ben Through His Fight with Leukaemia
In May 2016, our dear friend and colleague Ben was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia. Over the past nine years, he has battled this illness with courage and resilience, enduring intense treatments and taking every available medication. Despite it all, Ben has only experienced remission once. Until recently, it seemed he was out of options.
But there is now hope.
Ben has been referred for a life-changing bone marrow transplant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital — a major step that could finally bring him the chance of a cure. The road ahead is challenging: he will need to spend around four months in hospital, followed by six to nine months of recovery, during which he will be unable to work.
Ben has been a beloved part of The Black Bull family since we took over 18 months ago. More than just a team member, he’s the heart of the pub — bingo caller, quizmaster, singer, and above all, a friend to everyone who walks through the door. His positivity and strength have inspired us all, even on the toughest days.
Unfortunately, due to the demands of our industry and the live-in nature of his role, Ben is now facing not only time away from work, but also the loss of his home. He will need to find new accommodation and cover everyday living costs during his recovery.
Ben says:
“I am positive about the prospect of being cancer-free and can’t wait to feel well again. It’s been a long and hard journey, and I know there’s more to come. But I love life and my beautiful children, so I will fight with everything I’ve got.”
We’re launching this fundraiser to help Ben with essential expenses during and after treatment — from securing a place to live to covering basic costs while he regains his strength.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in giving Ben the stability and support he needs during this critical time.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
