My sister Megan (née Lesar) Eckroat, a 33-year-old South Bend, Indiana, native, was recently diagnosed with a rare, aggressive Stage IV cancer throughout multiple areas of her body.
Doctors have deemed her inoperable, and she is currently undergoing chemotherapy to stymie the spread of the disease.
During a 15-hour drive south to be with family, I struggled not only with accepting such news, but my inability to be near her as she now lives in Erie, Pennsylvania.
How can I help? How can I make a difference from afar?
With the assistance of numerous musicians, friends, coworkers and family members, we are hosting a benefit concert Sept. 14 at Vegetable Buddies in South Bend. My band Babylon Sneakers, Goshen’s Lalo Cura and South Bend’s Infinite Buffalo will each perform. There will also be a variety of silent auction items.
All proceeds from the event and this GoFundMe campaign will be directed toward Megan and her husband Todd to offset mounting medical bills.
