On January 7th, 2025 our brother Ben & his girlfriend Susie called to tell us that they could see the fire from their home in Altadena. At that time, it appeared that the fire was moving in the opposite direction from them and that they were not in immediate danger. We woke up the next morning to find out that the fire had shifted course and they had been suddenly evacuated at 3:15 am. At that time they did not know whether or not they would have a home to go back to. Unfortunately the following day they found out that their home and all of its contents were a total loss and all that they had left was what they had quickly put in their cars when they evacuated. Since Susie was the owner of the home, Ben’s personal belongings are not covered by insurance. Most heartbreaking were the family heirlooms but all of his household items as well which will be costly to replace. Ben is a very proud person who has always provided for all of his own needs, however with such a devastating loss he is definitely going to need help to recover.
