Belwood Beautification Project

This is OUR community, let’s make it beautiful together!
My name is Nathan Viskovich and I am a senior at Leigh High School. Along with my friend, Kylie Hansen, we were challenged for our English final to think of a project that would make a positive impact on our local community. After brainstorming, I recommended beautification of the median entrance to our neighborhood on Belwood Gateway across from the cabana. This is something I’ve heard my parents discuss, as well as other community members. After assessing the location, we noticed that other than five trees, there was really little more than weeds in the median and agreed that it could be a great project. We want to make this median beautiful and inviting and a landmark that projects the pride we feel for this special community. I’ve been working with a local (Master) gardener, our very own Tamiko House, to finalize the plant design; incorporating drought resistant plants and grasses that they will continue to thrive all year long. Tamiko has been a huge help! We also reached out to Steve Souza and Beau Sauve from the Town of Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department. While they have approved our project and agreed to install a drip system to support the new plants, they have not agreed to provide funding for the plants. This is why we need your help to make it happen! We are hoping to solicit donations from some nurseries, but are also hoping that as a community we can pool our own donations to make this improvement possible. I am including a sketch of our design, along with the proposed plants. How much money we raise will determine the size and number of plants. Based on this plan and incorporating medium sized plants from Central Wholesale Nursery, this plan could cost close to $2000. We really hope you will support this project, which will ultimately have a positive impact on home values in our community as well! If you would like to remain anonymous as a donor, please indicate this and we will honor it. In addition to this site, we will also accept checks made payable to Megan Viskovich, or cash, which both can be dropped off in our mail box at 187 Belwood Gateway. Kylie and I will work to acquire any donations or discounts possible from nurseries as well. Our plan is to have all donations in by May 23rd, so that we will be able to pick up the plants on the 24th. We also want to invite everyone in the neighborhood to come help us plant on Saturday May 26th starting at 9:00am. This is a great opportunity to come together as a community and help make a lasting improvement. Kylie and I hope that you will join us, and if you know of anything or anyone that could help us please let me know! Once complete, we will be presenting our project to our class and will be graded on how we engaged with the community and the success of the project. Thank you for your support!!
