Hi my name is Karen Belfield and I support a family of 5, which includes a dog. We had an electrical house fire on June 22, and had a huge loss. We are displaced for the next 3-6 months in order for the house to be repaired. It had to be gutted out, 600 gallons of water was pumped into the attic. I have insurance but they are not covering the full loss. My husband has been on social security disability for twelve years and just had on Friday, open face surgery to remove two tumors. So we are in a hotel room with him recovering from surgery. I have been the sole provider for my family. My son has special needs, all 3 including myself are on medication. We had to reorder all meds. My son lost all his shoes, half his clothes, his desk, dresser, etc. the fire was above his room. Thank God he heard the crackle and smelled it which allowed us to get out on time. My insurance agent went on vacation then sent me a check that not only didn’t cover the work but was returned by bank for not being endorsed. I am tackling the contractors, my agents slow response and gross underestimate of loss. I need a new roof, siding, ceilings, and floors in the entire house.
