Belfast Marathon for Action Deaf Youth

My daughter Ivy was born in November 2017. She was diagnosed almost straight away as being deaf in both ears. As a hearing family with no hearing loss experience, we had no idea what a hearing loss would mean for Ivy or our family.

Ivy has attended Action Deaf Youth for three years, firstly going to Messy Munchkins and now to Superstars. She absolutely loves it, as do all the children that go. Action Deaf Youth gives deaf children the opportunity to learn through sensory play in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment and get messy! As parents there has been the opportunity to gain support and advice from other parents in a similar situation and from staff. We as a family have gained so much from this group, including advice on Ivy's cochlear implants and British Sign Language help.

This May I am running the Belfast City Marathon (all 26 miles of it!!) and I would love to raise money for Action Deaf Youth as a thank you for the support they have provided for my family and, I'm sure many other families as well. Messy Munchkins and superstars are only a small part of what Action Deaf Youth provide, and I am thankful that an organisation such as this will support and help Ivy as she grows older!
