Beit Sahour is a Palestinian district of Bethlehem located at 1.0 km east of Bethlehem city and about 10 km south of Jerusalem. Beit Sahour is a small yet diverse city, rich with culture, history, civilization, and youth spirit. The population in Beit Sahour is around 15,000 people, 6.7% of them are above 65 years of age, which is more than 1000 seniors.
A high percentage of seniors suffer from lack of medical and social care for many reasons. The main reason is the lack of institutions that are equipped and ready to take care of them. At the same time, family members are very busy and do not have the time or the expertise to take care of them.
The purpose of this project is to establish a hospital with a home-like environment to care for the elderly who do not have family to take care of them, for those who need medical care round the clock and cannot find it at home, or for those who have no family at all. This home will provide 24-hour care where the residents will be properly fed and taken care of medically, socially and psychologically. This home will give them the chance to become socially active within a community that shares much in common. The home will offer a life with dignity without outside pressures that causes them many problems.
