Every parent of an adult with Intellectual Disability (ID) worries: “What will happen to my son/daughter when I can no longer care for them? Sadly, in Ireland, no one seem to be able to answer that question.
Due to years of underfunding and lack of planning for suitable residential places it has not keep pace with the demand and demographic changes. Over 1500 adults with ID are living with family carers over the age of 70–shockingly 450 of whom even over 80 years old.
‘Before We Die’ was formed by parents and siblings of adult children with ID to campaign and demand that the Irish Government meet the urgent needs of hundreds of adults who require a suitable place to live.
Your donation will assist us fight for the rights of our adult children with an intellectual disability to a secure and caring future.
