Bec's Bowel Cancer Fundraiser

In early November 2021 , a stomach ache prompted me to visit my GP who swiftly sent me to the hospital with suspected appendicitis. Following several scans and a colonoscopy just before Christmas, I was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal bowel cancer at the age of 40.
Since then I have undergone 12 cycles of intense chemotherapy which has so far helped to stabilise the disease. This will eventually stop working. However, there are several other options of treatment some of which are not available on the NHS.
Let me be clear I have less than a 10 percent chance of living for 5 years. I am fully aware treatment will not cure me however it could extend my life and give me an opportunity to see my 10-year-old daughter, Ava, hit her teenage years. I plan to keep this page updated with my progress and possible treatment options to be transparent with what these funds will be used for.
Thank you for reading my story please share with friends and family. And please educate yourself on the symptoms of what is now the UK's second biggest cancer killer for under 50s.
The symptoms of bowel cancer can include:
- Bleeding from your bottom and/or blood in your poo
- A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme tiredness for no obvious reason
- A pain or lump in your tummy
Most people with these symptoms don’t have bowel cancer. Other health problems can cause similar symptoms.
But if you have any of these, or if things just don't feel right, go to see your GP!
