Becky's Year in Haiti
Donation protected
My name is Becky Richey, and I am raising money to support a year of service with Notre Dame Mission Volunteers in Les Cayes, Haiti.
Located about 125 miles from Port-au-Prince on the southern coast of Haiti, Les Cayes is a popular seaport and home to the neighborhood of La Savane. Despite the high value that residents place on education and creating a better life for their children, there is a lack of employment and education opportunities as well as government services, and as a result La Savane is the most impoverished area of southern Haiti.
The Sisters of Notre Dame serve the community of La Savane by operating the Notre Dame Family Education Center, which provides education, health services, and job training skills to women and children. As a Notre Dame Mission Volunteer, I will be able to help provide literacy, ESL, and computer classes as well as other community services. I feel exceptionally priviliged to have this opportunity to work with the people who call La Savane home.
The funds raised by this campaign will cover the expenses of my travel to Haiti, but more importantly they will support the many programs and services that the Sisters of Notre Dame seek to provide in La Savane. I am incredibly grateful for any contribution you can make!
