Hey guys,
Back for the third year! & once again, I need your help supporting a cause for my birthday that means the world to me.
This fundraiser is dedicated to my mother. Who doesn't believe in any gender roles. Who encourages me to achieve to my full potential. Who taught me that I should help those not as privileged as me, as not everyone has the intentions to do so.
This year, I wanted to focus on issues that disproportionately affect women across India. After the “Nirbhaya” gang-rape case & upon doing research on rape statistics, I realized that a rape happens every 15 minutes in India & rape only accounts for 10% of the crimes against women. Female infanticide & feticide, honour killings, sexual harassment, dowry harassment, child marriages, caste discrimination & domestic violence cover just a few of the other issues. Gender inequality & discrimination in India has been a social issue for centuries, due to the existence of patriarchal norms that mark women as inferior to men in every aspect.
Last year while scrolling through my Instagram, I stumbled upon the story of Bibi Prakash Kaur. Bibi Prakash Kaur started an NGO by the name of Unique Home in Jalandhar, Punjab, India in 1993 to rehabilitate womxn that had been disowned by society. In the last 27 years, she has rescued hundreds, paying for their shelter, medical treatment, food & education. She has dedicated her life to this cause. She says that if womxn are never given a chance to live, how will we ever eradicate gender inequality?
I want to extend a helping hand to the womxn affected by these issues by offering as much financial support as we can collectively come up with. The organizations I’ll be supporting are Unique Home Jalandhar & families' of the womxn farmers protesting at the borders as they require our support as well.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone that helped me raise over $1000 last year for our farmers. I am eternally grateful for your support & am hopeful for it again. Therefore, if you can even contribute $5 and not eat out for one day, you can potentially save someone’s life. It’d honestly be the best birthday present.
Thank you <3
