Hi, my name is Alex, Bec's only child.

I wouldn't normally do something like this, however, there doesn't seem to be many other options we haven't tried.

My mum has fought and survived bowel and breast cancer in the past 2 years, impacting massively on her financial and physical well-being. Mum also got diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) in her late 40s and chemo treatment wasn't straightforward due to CF. During this time I gave birth to my second child, and mum managed to make it for the delivery in between hospital visits. It was a magical moment.

My mum is in and out of hospital regularly due to contracting infections that for most would be a common cold, however, her body cannot cope with them and intravenous antibiotics are the only way to fix it. This means mum spends 2 weeks in hospital very regularly.

Recently, during a check-up, we found out mum had lung and abdominal cancer. This cancer is at a progressive stage whereby surgery isn't an option, and chemotherapy treatment has to be lesser in strength as her body cannot tolerate the normal dose due to her CF. There is no certainty around mum's longevity as we have been told the cancer is terminal.

When mum is undergoing chemo she sleeps all the time, is often vomiting and nauseous, and is unable to spend time with loved ones. I yesterday had to have a conversation with my 4-year-old who asked for "grandma" to come to the beach, when I mentioned she couldn't he said, "oh is she still sick?". This was devastating.

Mum does everything in her power to be an active part of my babies lives and constantly offers support to those around her, despite how she's feeling.

Recently due to this diagnosis, she has had to leave work for the foreseeable future and is not entitled to any financial support. Due to this, our family has tried to work out ways to support her financially and this is what brings me to you...

I want to see mum stay in her home, I want to see mum stay in a location close to hospitals and close to her loved ones.

My mum has always put everyone first, and this is me trying to put her first for once. Please help in any way you can to support her through this difficult journey, no one deserves it more.
