Donation protected
A big thank you to our donors so far. Beaverton Vision has surpassed its initial goal of raising money to pay the fees charged by Durham Region to provide us with disclosure related to the proposed supportive housing project on Main Street, Beaverton. We need this disclosure to inform legal proceedings we are contemplating bringing against the Region of Durham and/or some of its councillors.
While there are a number of people (including lawyers) volunteering their time as members of Beaverton Vision, litigation is costly, so the amount we'll need will depend on what needs to be done by non-volunteer professionals. Accordingly, we have raised our fundraising target to $20,000. Specifically, the donations will be spent on funding legal fees, disbursements, expert reports and testimony and other things we feel will strengthen our litigation position. An accounting will be provided to donors, backed up be the related receipts. None of the people who are now volunteering their time will receive any of these funds, only third parties we decide to hire because of their expertise. All funds raised will be deposited in a Bank account under my name at the Beaverton CIBC (who, by the way, has thanked us for what we are trying to accomplish).
Also, please know that Beaverton Vision is fully supportive of doing the right things to help the homeless. We are fighting against a project that is doomed to fail the homeless due to a lack of community support and resources. Accordingly, if a relatively small amount of donated funds remain unused following our fight against Durham Region, they will be donated to helping the homeless in the Beaverton area. In the event that we are able to negotiate a settlement that is acceptable to the Beaverton Community without having to spend a material amount of the funds, donors will be paid back their respective pro rata share of the remaining money.
Please help us raise a war chest so that Beaverton Vision can do everything in its power to fight this Orwellian downloading of south Durham's problems on to Beaverton.
