Fundraiser to support Beau and raise awareness!

Our goal is twofold; raise funds for our dear friend Beau and raise awareness of the harsh practices and inequities entrenched in the Australian immigration system.

You probably know Beau from Joan cafe where she has met you with her enormous smile and infectious warmth before serving you up something delicious!

Beau came to Australia as a student learning English on a one year visa. After spending the year studying hard she extended her visa for another year with a mind to seeing more of the country and culture.

By year three Beau had decided she wanted to start the long journey towards securing her right to live and work in Australia on an ongoing basis.

If pressed, Beau will reluctantly tell you the financial burden of multiple visa applications, compulsory health insurance, international student fees and agent fees has already been tens of thousands of dollars. All of which she has paid for through her hard work.

Now, having built a community and business at Joan she is faced with more bills in order to fulfill her requirements for sponsorship under a 482 visa. These costs include a skills assessment as a chef, which would not be required if she was from a European country.

We think this is unfair and we wanted to help!

Now we’d like to invite members of our community to share the burden and show their support. Join us for a fun event including a opportunity to win awesome prizes (all donated by local legends), an auction, drink specials, entertainment and plenty of opportunity to meet other friendly people from the area. If you’ve been admiring a local hottie over your morning coffee, now’s your chance to mingle (lol!).

Any contribution, big or small, will be much appreciated but more than anything else Beau wants to get the word out there about the systemic inequalities that negatively impact people trying to migrate to Australia.
