Beat the Heat! Austin Mutual Aid Water Campaign

Donation protected
Hundreds of Austin residents living outside are without water or shelter. Help us get them the supplies they need!

<><> Wow wow WOW - We reached 20K! <><>

We've been able to provide support to:
- 14 encampments in the Austin area
- 100's of unhoused individuals
- For 3 long HOT months - 7 days a week

We've distributed:
- 100's of tarps, tents and shade structures
- 100's of personal fans
- 1000's of gallons of water - in five gallon jugs and water bottles - much of it distributed cold or frozen in 100+ blistering Texas sun

>>>----> We are going to wrap up our fundraiser with a final goal of 25k. Please help spread the word!

This final goal will let us continue to deliver water, shade and protection against the elements through the warm, humid fall here in Austin.

It's been incredible to be a part of this campaign. It's uplifting that so many people care so deeply about the most vulnerable in our society. Especially uplifting in these times.

NEXT BIG PURCHASE: Large mobile water tank [In kind donations always accepted]

We are focusing on providing clean drinking water to homeless encampments in Austin because no other need is greater right now in our communities in order to save lives.

ATX Camp Support (Stop the Sweeps , Austin Mutual Aid , Primrose Community Care , Austin Food Not Bombs  and others) have built relationships with homeless encampments throughout Austin by providing regular meals since the Covid-19 crisis began, and the consensus now is that a water campaign is the greatest need.

Your donations can go to:

- $10 for a 5 gallon drinking water refill or portable misting fan with batteries
- $20 ice box
- $30 Installation of a 5gal container of drinking water with water pump
- $75 for a shade structure
- $100 provides clean drinking water for a camp for one week
- $400 provides clean drinking water for a camp for a month

Consider what trying to go through your daily errands would be like while outdoors in 100 degree weather with little to no water? Now consider having shade, a portable fan, and as much clean drinking water as you need. It would make a day that much more possible to live.

We have a large and growing homeless population in Austin, and many camps are completely exposed without any shade.

The homeless are at the highest risk for Covid-19. The population includes many older people, people of color and people with health complications. Washing hands and masks is nearly impossible. The city is lagging far behind in adequate protection for these communities.

This really is America's growing refugee crisis. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by homelessness. It seems like these people need huge change in their lives, so what will a few bucks or some drinking water do when they need a home, a job and social services? Everything. I promise you. If we can supply clean drinking water to a camp it can save lives. A person that isn't struggling to barely survive can do so much more for themselves.

Photo is of Mama Red with our first 5 gallon drinking water station. She's a pillar of her community, always sharing resources and collecting needs requests from other residents of her camp to pass on to groups like ours. Your donation can exponentially grow, by supporting individuals like her as she supports so many others.
