Support Dennis' Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On Thursday, June 20th, Dennis went to the Kings Mountain Hospital and was transported from there to Shelby. He ended up in the ICU with double pneumonia and sepsis in his bloodstream from the pneumonia infection being so severe. Shelby ICU did an x-ray of his lungs and blood test, determining that his body was so sick that he needed to go on the ventilator right away with full sedation. They pumped him full of antibiotics. His blood pressure dropped extremely low and he was put on three blood pressure medicines (now we are down to two). Dennis continued to have irregular heart rhythm with an extremely low blood pressure, so they did an EKG and CAT scan and found signs of a heart attack. At this point, he was flown by helicopter to CMC Main in Charlotte on the Dixon Heart Unit of the ICU floor. There, they found that his arteries were clear and he had not had a heart attack as we were originally told. As of yesterday afternoon, Dennis was moved from the ICU heart unit in Charlotte to regular MICU floor (medical ICU). He is still fully sedated but headed in the right direction. The doctor said his body needs rest to be able to heal from the infection and then they will start each day weaning him off sedation and paralytics to see how his body will handle it on his own. Dennis will continue the blood pressure medicines and both antibiotics until the infection is clear. The doctor said to sum it up- “we're still in the woods, headed out of them, but we're not out of the woods yet”. He said Dennis is very sick with a long road to recovery.
