BE THE SPARK
30 days. One movement!
My name is Daniel Babb and I’m blessed to be a professional footballer.
I’m here to launch Be The Spark, a movement to interrupt isolation through small acts of connection and courageous action while raising funds to help Brent Pope's Elephant in the Room .
When we have structure, purpose, direction, rhythm and something to chase everyday taken away from us uncertainty takes its place. Whether it be in your career, relationships or elsewhere it can feel like everything seems to land at once. And slowly you start to disconnect.
Isolation can feel like watching your own life happen from the outside, like your life is moving in fast forward and you’re not really in it. Even with family, friends, teammates and club/community all around, we can become detached and start to turn in on ourselves.
Often we believe we have to carry things all by ourselves. Telling yourself to deal with it. Keep moving. Figure it out. This mentality makes it harder than it needs to be. The more you keep everything in, the heavier it becomes.
This detachment can happen to anyone. They may not look like they're struggling. It could be a teammate, brother, sister, friend. Someone sitting beside you in school or at work. Someone performing in front of thousands of people or smiling in every photo. You just don’t always know.
When you are isolated, your own thoughts start to feel like the only possible truth. A conversation can break the cycle. Conversation creates other possibilities. Sometimes it's not about the big breakthrough but the small things.
Now and throughout my whole football career, I commit to interrupting that isolation for anyone who's struggling.
That is why I connected so strongly with Brent Pope and the team behind Elephant in the Room. Their whole message is built around a simple idea:
Everyone has an elephant in the room, something difficult to talk about, something we might be afraid to admit, or something we are carrying quietly and sometimes the most important thing we can do is start a conversation.
That’s a message I want to help spread. It’s the message I want to bring to life in football!
So join me in interrupting isolation.
YOU are the most important part!
Sometimes we need a little reminder to connect, appreciate and be present.
If you donate, thank you. But please don’t stop there.
I don’t want this to be a fundraiser that people donate to and then just forget.
So pass the Spark!
1. Call somebody you haven’t spoken to in a while and tell them you love them.
That’s it.
Take one minute.
Pick up the phone.
Tell them.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment.
Don’t assume they already know.
You never know who needs to hear it.
2. Send the message you’ve been avoiding.
The apology.
The check-in.
The difficult conversation.
The message saying you are having a hard time.
The message asking if someone else is okay.
The message you have been scared to send because you do not know how it’ll be received.
Send it anyway. Send it now.
Being the Spark means being aware of fear, but not letting fear make the decision for you.
It means daring to act before you know the outcome.
It means starting a conversation.
It means helping someone else before they have to ask or when they don’t know how to ask.
And realising that often helping someone else is exactly what helps us help ourselves.
Where the money raised goes?
The Be the Spark movement is in association with Brent Pope and ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM
100% of funds raised through Be the Spark will support Elephant in the Room's work bringing mental-health awareness, conversation and wellbeing resources to schools, sports environments and communities.
The Elephant in the Room Schools Programme gives schools a visible elephant sculpture, teacher resources, wellbeing activities, classroom conversations, art projects, launch support and a structured implementation framework.
The idea is simple but powerful:
Create an environment where people feel more able to speak earlier.
Create more kindness.
Create more openness.
Create more moments where someone feels seen.
That is what your donation helps support.
Then, Pass the Spark
Make the call.
Send the message.
Ask that person to pass the spark on.
If one person does it, there’s a conversation. If hundreds do it, it becomes a movement of people actively choosing connection over isolation, action over fear, real conversation over silence.
Interrupt isolation.
Pass the Spark.
BE THE SPARK.
Thank you for being part of the movement.
