Help Us Be the Hands and Feet of Jesus for a Young Man in Need

Recently, our 7 yr old son Maverick has developed a bold and beautiful habit. Everywhere we go, he looks for people to ask a simple question: "How can I pray for you?"

He has a small prayer journal that he writes down names and requests in and every night, as a family, we pray over each one. It's become something really special to witness.

A few weeks ago, while on vacation, something happened that deeply moved all of us.

The Backstory

It was about 8 PM on a Friday night when my husband Jake and I decided to grab a coffee after dinner. We pulled into a coffee shop and made our way through the line pretty quickly. Once we reached the front, things seemed to slow down. We found ourselves waiting longer than expected making awkward conversation with the worker while we waited ….unreasonably long just for two black coffees.

From the backseat of our van, Maverick rolled down his window and asked the young man that was working, "Hey, how can I pray for you?"

At first, the young man looked a bit confused. But then he quietly said we could pray for his mom. I hesitated, but gently asked what was going on so we could pray more specifically.

That's when something happened we weren’t expecting.

With tears in his eyes he shared that his dad passed away when he was just 7 years old. Since then, his family has struggled. They had been living in homeless shelters and trying to survive. Now at just 16 years old, he was staying with a friend and recently gotten this job. His goal? To save up enough money to buy a car so he can keep working and build a future. Meanwhile, his mom was still living in a homeless shelter an hour away.

In that moment, we didn't have the perfect words, but we told him that Jesus sees him, loves him, and cares for him deeply.

He said it was crazy because he had been thinking recently about how he knows God is real and believes in Him, but he still has

so many questions and just doesn’t understand it all.

Right there in that drive-thru line, we prayed with him and reminded him that he doesn't have to have all the answers—Jesus meets us exactly where we are. We left knowing God had sent us there for a bigger reason than just two black coffees.

But the story didn't end there.

We knew our pastor and his family (who are also our dear friends) were traveling to the same area (about 8 hours away from where we live) the following week. Maverick prayed every night that our friends would run into this young man and be able to share Jesus with him. And on their very first visit to the coffee shop, he was the one who took their order.

They were able to share the Gospel with him, give him a Bible, and even exchange contact information to stay connected.

We truly believe this was not an accident. God is pursuing this young man.

And now, we have an opportunity to be part of that story.

The Need

This young man is working hard, doing everything he can, but one of his biggest obstacles is transportation. Without a car, getting to and from work is a daily challenge.

How You Can Help

We are raising money to help purchase a reliable vehicle for him. Something that will give him stability, independence, and hope.

This is our chance to turn our dollars into something eternal and to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a tangible, life-changing way.

Every dollar given will go directly toward helping him get a car. If we don't reach the full amount, every single dollar will still be given to him to continue saving toward that goal to buy a car.

Not only does this help a physical need, but more than that, let’s show him that God loves him and will provide for him!

Maverick is already faithfully praying that this goal will be reached so we can bless his new friend.

Our ultimate goal is to purchase a reliable vehicle for this young man. We would love to be able to deliver it to him (about 8 hours away from where we live). This is what Maverick is currently praying for! We would love to update you all on that journey! We feel very strongly that this will also SHOW our friend in a real way the love of God. Our prayer is the Gospel is truly displayed to him and comes to life through this. Feeling expectant for what God will do through the generosity of others!
