We are creating a Smart Mobility Assistant, a compact, AI-powered navigation device designed to improve the safe and independent mobility of people with visual, cognitive, or motor impairments. Developed in flexible formats, including a small, portable stick, a chest badge, or a lightweight belt, the device integrates seamlessly into everyday life while providing real-time situational awareness.
The system uses a combination of advanced sensors and on-device AI processing to detect obstacles, interpret environmental conditions, and support intuitive navigation. It provides this information through multimodal feedback, including vibration patterns, beeps, and optional voice guidance. This multi-layered communication approach ensures accessibility based on the user's different preferences and environments, offering discreet, hands-free support both indoors and outdoors.
The Smart Mobility Assistant addresses a fundamental need: safe navigation remains a significant barrier to independence for millions of people with sensory or motor limitations. Current solutions largely rely on traditional mobility aids or single-function technologies lacking ambient intelligence, adaptability, or intuitive design. In contrast, the Smart Mobility Assistant offers a modern, compact, and customizable approach that enhances, rather than replaces, existing tools, while reducing risks and increasing user confidence. The key strengths of the proposed solution include:
Human-centered design: Compact and discreet form factors that promote privacy, comfort, and everyday usability. Advanced environmental awareness: Real-time obstacle detection and directional guidance based on built-in AI. Multimodal accessibility: Touch, audio, and voice options customized to the user's needs and context.
Scalable architecture: Supports future software features, integrations, and diverse deployment settings. The Smart Mobility Assistant aims to ensure users greater independence, safety, and participation in community life. This proposal aims to support the development, validation, and implementation of the technology, enabling broader access to an inclusive, next-generation mobility solution.
